Letter of Thanks
Further to minute 55.2 of the Town Council meeting held on 9th August, 2004 to receive the following letter of thanks to the Mayor and members from Mrs. Sybil Nickolls:
I see by a report in the Maldon and Burnham Standard that the Council is to make a donation in memory of Peter to his named charity. I would like to thank you all most sincerely for this very kind and generous gesture.
I do not yet have the final figure of the amount raised as it stays open for another two weeks but I will inform Helen of the total sum.

Photograph Album of the Queen's Visit to Maldon in 1971
Members are informed that a photograph album of the Queen's visit to Maldon in 1971 has been presented to the Town Council by Ms. H. Taylor, the granddaughter of former Mayor of Maldon Cyril Dowsett. Her mother, Mrs. Ann Dawson, Cllr. Dowsett's first Mayoress for the period 1960-61, bequeathed the album to the people of Maldon to enable them to remember Maldon's wonderful day.

Members are informed that Sgt. Miller, Maldon Police has contacted the office regarding the timing of the proposed Street Closure and requested that it be amended from 10.30 a.m. to 10.20 .a.m. to enable the closure to come into effect before the Wreath Laying Service. The appropriate authorities have been contacted regarding this matter. He also stated that four marshals would be required to manage the street closure.

ROAD SAFETY WORKING PARTY - PUBLIC SURVEY
Further to minute 59.1 of the Town Council meeting held on 9th August, 2004 and the Special meeting of the Town Council held on 24th August, 2004, to consider whether the following should be publicised in the local press in respect of pedestrianisation of Maldon High Street.
"The Town Council are seriously concerned about the amount of traffic in the High Street:
a. Have you any views on pedestrianisation - Where from? Where to?
b. When - i) 24 hours;
ii) while shops are open.
Access for buses that stop in the High Street, taxis and the emergency services would not be affected.
No proposal can be considered until the pavements have been replaced at the top of the High Street."

CODE OF PRACTICE
Further to minute 35.1 of the Town Council meeting held on 1st July, 2003 and the letter of Cllr. Keighley dated 14th August, 2004 (circulated to all members of the Town Council) members are requested to consider whether they wish to hold a Special meeting of the Town Council to review and discuss the video entitled "The Code in Practice" produced by the Standards Board for England. (Members are requested to bring with them their copy of the document, The Parish Councils (Model Code of Conduct) Order 2001)
For information should members consider holding a Special Town Council meeting the following dates are available:

PLANNING APPLICATIONS
Further to the Council meeting held on 9th August, 2004 to regularise the situation regarding planning applications Cllrs. Keighley and Shrimpton have requested that consideration be given to resolving the following:
The Planning Committee be granted the authority to determine planning applications and in this respect Standing Order No. 61 be amended to read:
"Every planning application referred to the Council for observation shall be referred to the next meeting of the Planning Committee for determining.
If any application is contrary to the terms of the Maldon District
Local Plan which requires a change of policy, the Planning Committee
will make recommendation to the next meeting of the Town Council.
If the timescale laid down by the District Council cannot be met,
the recommendation will be referred to a Special Meeting of the
Town Council." |
