PUBLIC FOOTPATHS
Footpath No. 40
Further to minute 24.1 of the Environment Committee meeting held on 21st June, 2004 to receive and consider the following response from the Parks Team Leader, Maldon District Council regarding Footpath 40, Promenade Park.
I think the information contained in your letter is incorrect. It has always been my understanding that Footpath 40 actually runs along the top of the slope adjacent to the Delph Ditch, where the seawall would have been prior to landfill operations. The footpath does not include steps to the lower ground. I have checked the definitive footpath maps held in the Council Offices and these support my view. There seems little point in redirecting the footpath from one area of level grass to another. People naturally follow the line of the avenue at the moment anyway as the grass is shorter.
As a point of information work is due to commence in the coming week at the point where this footpath meets the yacht club approach road. This will involve removing the steps to the Delph and improving access between the park and the road.

LONGSHIP WAY - REPLACEMENT BY-LAW SIGNS
Members are informed that information has been received from the Maldon District Council, Anti-Social Behaviour Coordinator regarding problems of nuisance at the Longship Way amenity area. In this respect some members may recall that on 26th June, 1997 a byelaw came into force for the amenity area and three signs with the following wording were produced and two erected in the area:
|
|
MALDON TOWN COUNCIL
BYELAW
NO PERSONS OVER THE AGE OF 14 YEARS
SHALL PLAY OR TAKE PART IN ANY
BALL GAME ON THIS AREA
UNLESS IN CHARGE OF A CHILD UNDER 14 YEARS
|
|
| |
It has been reported that these signs have subsequently disappeared from the area and in response to the recent problems at the amenity area it is suggested that replacement signs be installed.
In this respect members are requested to receive and consider a quotation in the sum of £115 plus VAT to supply 1 and fit 2 byelaw signs at the amenity area.
