Further to minute 64 of the Planning Committee meeting held on 28th July 2003, members received the notes of the meeting held on 5th August 2003 between representatives of the WRARG and Town Councillors.
Cllr Savage said that the second line of the second paragraph of 3.A.(i) of the Notes of the meeting which reads 'Wantz Road is very narrow' should be replaced with 'Wantz Road narrows to under one foot'.
The Chairman read out two letters of objection received from residents of Tenterfield Road regarding the possible re-instatement of the no entry system at the top of Wantz Road and the following comments requested to be brought to members attention by County Councillor Mead:
§ The Maldon District Council has passed a resolution to implement Traffic Calming at Wantz Road.
§ Traffic calming tables in America Street, Wantz Chase and Dyers Road with Queen Street are being considered.
§ Some kind of chicaned parking is also being looked into.
§ Road closures in Maldon should not be introduced without looking at the whole of Maldon.
§ The County Council have designated Wantz Road, Spital Road and Fambridge Road as a strategic route through the town.
The Chairman said that the Town Council had agreed to back the Wantz Road Area Residents' Group and he could see no reason to reconsider this.
The Chairman adjourned the meeting to allow members of the Wantz Road Area Residents' Group to speak.
The following points were raised by members of the Wantz Road Area Residents' Group:
§ Tenterfield Road had been canvassed and many residents had signed the Wantz Road petition.
§ At an earlier meeting Mr. S Broad had said that he would try and organise a traffic survey but was now saying that this cannot be undertaken.
§ The Wantz Road petition has over 600 signatures from residents of a wide range of roads, many signatories had expressed concern regarding their children and elderly people.
§ The signage for Tenterfield Road should be on the other side of the road as it cannot easily be seen in its present position.
The Chairman reconvened the meeting.
Discussion ensued regarding the Recommendation of note 5 of the meeting held on 5th August 2003 and it was
RECOMMENDED: that a letter be forwarded to the District Council requesting the following:
a. to reconsider reinstating the no-entry system at the top of Wantz Road making the section of the road to Tenterfield Road one way;
b. to authorise a traffic survey and noise pollution and air quality tests to be undertaken in respect of Wantz Road;
c. to consider the installation of a 'Town Centre and access only' sign at the bottom end of Mundon Road and a further sign stating 'through traffic turn left' at the roundabout from the Latchingdon approach road. (amended Planning meeting 1-9-03 minute 84 refers);
d. signage for Tenterfield Road should be on the other side of the road as it cannot easily be seen in its present location.
